I’ve been using this version since the very first time I started using English Bible.

I have now formed the habit of reading 1 chapter (almost) every night after which I’ll read a devotional book (Everyday with Jesus), update my diary, pray then off to dreamland.

*It’s difficult though to keep up with this habit while travelling.

*There are also nights when I force myself to read it. At least, just for the sake of reading it. I’ll then find my eyes on the Bible, but my mind drifting away elsewhere :)

*I don’t always understand the meaning. Though there are times when I read the verse I’ve known since childhood, suddenly revealing a new meaning to me. Sadly, this does not happen often!

*I don’t actually ‘enjoy’ reading the Bible as there are many more interesting things to do/read that better suit my taste, time and interest.

But I also believe that just as we need food for our daily sustenance, we also need to read the Bible daily (at least a verse) to sustain us for our spiritual nourishment.

Pray that I can regularly follow this!! For “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak”.

I hardly carry it to Church too.

Now apart from all that, the only time I read the Bible is before a tough exam/interview.

Yes, that is what we mostly do. Ask God to help us achive our gaols and ambitions. Not how he would want to use us but use him to do what we want. Let’s not discuss this right now. I will come to this with a different post.

Mahruai, I think it should come from the heart – the desire to read. Not because some tells us so, somebody does it, becuase we are Christian by birth.

How can you guys keep up without the Bible!? I would like to request you all to start keeping it and reading it as well, you will find everything in it. I do keep Holy Bible and read it everyday, would also like to add this line ” A Christian who does not read Bible is like a sportstar who does not take exercise”, so guys please do not sound like an atheist………….

By: Sandman https://misual.life/2006/10/11/do-you-have-the-bible-with-you/comment-page-1/#comment-5001 Sandman Wed, 11 Oct 2006 09:05:41 +0000 https://misual.life/?p=533#comment-5001 Well, to be honest, I haven’t opened the pages of The Holy Bible in a very long time except during Church and occasional Prayer Meetings. When I was small, I have read more or less the entire Old Testament because I was really interested in those stories. Now apart from all that, the only time I read the Bible is before a tough exam/interview.

But I still read “Our Daily Bread” everyday as soon as I wake up. Like, today’s excerpt is about “Counterfeit Reality”. Using computers, it is possible to manipulate images and videos. Centuries before such modern technology, Apostle Paul had warned Timothy about counterfeit reality in the Church. He said that in the last days, people would be self-absorbed, “having a form of godliness but denying its Power” (2 Timothy 3:5).

The last paragraph of today’s reading is really deep: “When people hear us say we are Christians, they may wonder if our Faith is real. Our lives will answer the question by reflecting the reality of Christ.”

I am quite satisfied with “Our Daily Bread”, although I don’t mean to say it had completed substituted The Bible. “Our Daily Bread” also suggests a passage from The Bible to be read everyday, which I sometimes don’t follow because the crux of the Passage from the Bible has already been delivered in the “Our Daily Bread” article.
