Even with zero savings, if cost of living is high, the standard of living will most probably be higher.

Strong currency (Purchasing Power Parity) matters and will kick in once you spend your strong currency savings in a weak currency economy.

For example, I spend 60 yen for coffee from a vending machine in Tokyo, I can treat my friends to 8 cups at Ram Bhai’s. With 110 USD I might get a room in NYC with cockraches. In india, I can spend the night in a 5*+ suite off season.
