Getting into IIM, under any circumstances, and passing out of that concentration camp of great learning is not a disgrace, its an honour. I’m sure you cannot even get into it with ST quota because they have stringent cut offs for STs also. The ST/SC quota is always not totally filled, because they cannot find eligible applicants meeting the criteria, and seats are given to other categories. File an RTI App with Ministry of HRD if you want to confirm.

All sections of society cannot be painted with the same brush. You cannot put a flyweight and a heavyweight in the same ring. Some people are victims of pure circumstances, and some focefully denied religious, societal, and econimic rights, for 1000s of years. First, someone has to make right the mistakes made in history, inadverdently or otherwise. You pay for your mistakes. Second, all institutions, including the government, must be responsible for society as a whole – flyweight & heavyweight.

There has been reservations in IIMs since 1961. Yeah right, their standard has come down. The quality of Professors has declined. The quality of research material & case studies produced have reduced. Admission cut offs have reduced. Average salaries have reduced after accounting for inflation. Number of companies for placements have reduced. All wrong!

Students are definitely judged on merit. Once you get in, you do not get brownie points or extra marks for belonging to a particular category. All you get is a foot into the door, the rest is what you make of it.
