Just like rape has nothing to do with how beautiful the victim is, sexual harassment is more of a show of power. I see a stranger saying “hey sexy baby” more as sexual harassment than a friend or an acquaintance saying ” hey thats a very elegant dress, it makes you look sexy.” As a matter-of-fact I would take it a step further and say that the stranger saying “hey sexy baby” most likely has an intention of instilling fear to the addressed female.

Even though I DON’T walk around in revealing tank tops and a g-string peeking out of a low-rise jeans, I still get my fair share of disgusting eve-teasing. Vai (ngalsin??!!) men are a whole lot worse than the ones in Mizoram where its normally, ‘ va chhe lo ve…lo hawi leh teh’ type…pretty harmless. When I get eve-teased by a vaingalsin, I always make sure I put them in their place( specially when they inserted ‘chinky’ in it ). I walk up to them, look at them right in the face and tell them, ‘do you have the guts to repeat what you have just said’ (at this point, ka meng rum thra thei mai mai!!). Till, now I have not met anyone who has the guts to repeat their lines right in my face. No cheap-thrill seekers should be allowed to get away with it.
