His untimely death in 1970 at the age of 27 grouped him with Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison (the Doors) as one of contemporary music’s tragic “three J’s”. Joe Satriani, then a 14 year old boy picked up his guitar the day Hendrix died.

I read somewhere that Hendrix was interested to join ELP (Emerson, Lake and Palmer) around the time he died. ELP would have become HELP (Hendrix, Emerson, Lake and Palmer) But the they were delayed by conflicting schedules and he unfortunately died before they could get together. Just imagine what an even greater band it would be.
