POST MORTEM CALORICITY

Post mortem Caloricity is a condition where the temperature of the body remains raised for the first two or so hours after death. In certain conditions, instead of promoting the process of cooling of the body, act in a way, so that, the body temperature is either high at the time of death or is increased for sometime after death, so that, at a particular time after death the body may appear disproportionately warmer than what it should have been. This is termed as Post Mortem Caloricity and the conditions are

1. Post mortem Glycogenolysis
1. This is a normal phenomenon and the rise is 3.6oF or 2oC
2. Various Causes of Death such as

1. Septicaemia,
1. Infectious diseases,
2. Bacteremia
3. Tetanus

2. Asphyxial Conditions

3. Severe convulsions
1. Tetanus
2. Strychnine

4. Hyperpyrexia at death
1. Heat Stroke
2. Pontine Haemorrhage

5. High Atmospheric Temperature

In medicine, a coma, or comatose, (from the Greek κῶμα koma, meaning deep sleep) is a profound state of unconsciousness. A coma may also result from head trauma caused by mechanisms such as falls or car accidents. It may also be deliberately induced by pharmaceutical agents in order to preserve higher brain function following another form of brain trauma, or to save the patient from extreme pain during healing of injuries or diseases. The underlying cause of coma is bilateral damage to the Reticular formation of the midbrain, which is important in regulating sleep. If the cause of coma is not clear, various investigations (blood tests, medical imaging) may be performed to establish the cause and identify reversible causes. Coma usually necessitates admission to a hospital and often the intensive care unit.
