Band, if Indian law permit death penaly for drug smugglers, and if the late Mr. C.Biakliana (may his soul rest in pace) is convicted as per letter and spirit of the law, I am all for it. But the Police (legal authority) did not arrest him and file charges. “SRS North Zone” nor any other self appointed vigilante groups have legal rights to assault, let alone kill, any alleged drug smugglers, call girls or illegal immigrants. There are thousands of police and excise officers, employed at enormous cost, to do those very jobs. Even if they do not perform those roles, “SRS North Zone” still do not have constitutional right to physically assault accused drug dealers.
Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Cr.P.C. rule here, not Law of the Jungle.

Band> just for clarification (not that i think ganja is good) - ganja is not a drug which will cause death, unlike proxyvon etc. Even the Netherlands has legalised it. It was also mooted to be legalised in the US, but the strong tobacco lobby was against it.

@ band - banning smoking is highly unrealistic…although smoking is not necessarily good. bad as it may be there will still be people smoking.
likewise ganja/drug etc.
as long as there’s demand, supply will always be there. lets face it,
no taliban/SRS will ever wipe out no ganja nor drugs, least alchohol.
they are part of human very existence…
i think the issue here is NGO taking law into their own hands…of which

@jonan on the issue of NGO taking law into their own hands - i have few questions:
Why did NGO take law in their own hands? Why - is this becase of poor law and oder situation in the state. The state government follow the policy it cannot handled.. so comes the YMA.. in taliban ways.. who is responsible ultimately.. the government? who make / elect the government .. the people… dear jonan.. you and i are also responsible!!! I thins the issue should not end in just another ‘Blame game’ - i hope this unfortunate event teach each of us a lesson - one way or the other… its high time we have efficint government in place who can handled economic development, law and order etc.. properly!!! you and i can be an instrument for this!!!

Thian Valbuang, Ganja chu drug a ni lo ka ti lo in ka hria, i wrote “…ganja is not a drug which will cause death……” - drug chu a ni, but i do not think it causes death even if taken in large amounts like proxyvon, cocaine etc. i.e. no OD case for ganja. A tha tih na a ni bik lo. What I want to say here is the quantum for punishment in most countries for ganja is less as compared to other hard drugs.

Is this a false of NGO’s (YMA / Synod) or is this the weakness of State Government?
- In Mizoram, Government is everything - sole provider of public goods, biggest employer, controlled about 99 % of money supply in the state, blah blah blah… we all look at government, we all want to have a share, we all wanted to control or have say in one or the other!!
- In Mizoram NGO’s are very strong, very powerful and sometimes more more influential and authoritative than government.. in many instances.. no denying that!
- Having said this, if you compared NGO’s in Mizoram they are no different from those in Developed countries / neighbouring states / globe
- Where there is strong Government, NGO are also strong but they could not take law enforcement in their own hands cuz’ government is too strong to take it for granted…
- How about Mizoram - NGO are strong and influential but government are not.. there is hardly any policy sucessfully implemented by the state governemnt (espl without the help of NGOs).. in each and every steps taken by the Government..NGO’s are involved..Government needs them.. the situation is a creation of weak government!!!
Here.. the cause and the consequenses of rightful law enforcers hand’s being tied down by NGO’s is nothing but the weakness of State Government
- If we have strong government, good governance will be instored. If there is good governance in the state, there would’t be any requirement to involved NGO’s in each and every steps …
Blaming YMA / Synod may not be a good idea to start with.. we should all stand up and work /think / campaign for electing efficient Government in the state.. then only we could restored desired situation in the State!!

Band- I agree with you there. All these are because of a very weak state government.

A fanu chuan a thil tih hi a dikloh avangin police hnenah in pe lut tur in a hrilh a, SRS henah in pe lut reng2 suh a ti bawk. Sadly their fears came true.
Even his brother is in the lock up - for no reason other than that he is his brother.

Let us elect a government that works, for a change, in 2008 Building Millenium Centre shpping mall is not my idea of good governnce. Running proper law and order, reforming educaton and health facilities, attracting environment friendly, employment generating private sector investment, viable, good agriculture policy and promotion of ICT ill be signs of good governance.
