Auto sucker
June 23rd, 2007 1:05 pm | more than words | apatea | 96 ViewsIt’s a beautiful hyderabadi Saturday morning. So I tell myself that it’s too good to spent it all alone. Having no one to go out with, I huddled my blanket and I am once again in my peaceful haven. My Saturday morning solace was, however, ended in an instance when a cousin of mine wanted me to go to her college to attend the teachers-parents/guardians meet. As always I’m already late for the meeting so my faithful driver was driving through the big traffic like knife on butter.
On a crossroad however, like any other auto driver, he took the handle and confidently pointed us towards a direction that’s gonna give him a few extra rupees. So I tell myself, why struggle with him and My hindi, so I ended up mentally agreeing to pay a Rs.3/4 extra. When we reached the centre (Hyderabad Central!) we (rather I) realized that the rest of the way has been turned into a ONEWAY!! Being late, I have to get into another one of the three wheeled mean machines to get to my destination.
Until now the story is nothing new on the streets of Hyderabad. But contemplating back to what happened to me few hours back, I realized the auto guy must’ve definitely known the over-bridge being constructed and the road now being a one-way.
Did he contemplate as far as thinking that if I spent another Rs.10/15 more on ANOTHER auto I was throwing some unexpected finances to the economy of the state of AP, even if he doesn’t get that cash in his hand? How many people can he actually fool with that scam? Say 3 people a day, so that’s 21 people in a week; so that’s some 80 people a month.
So with the number of autos plying in the city, this could really be a blessing for the people and the govt. You think he is uneducated, but he sure is useful than a lot of ‘Graduates’ we do have at home. Makes me wonder…
