Living in Vacuum

January 23rd, 2007 1:20 pm by trekkerboy

Woke up on a cold morning in Bangalore around 9 this morning and I am in a good mood. I think I have gained not weight but lots of happiness :-) since I arrived here. I am in a good mood because I got an unexpected week long off. I am in a good mood to have dinner and tea ready when my host returns in this evening. Though I have retired from active cooking last summer, I think I am going to cook today.

I landed here on Sunday morning with Dr Chris (SJMC) and a long time friend right from izawl.com days. Since then, it has been a mixture of good and bad lucks.

The day I arrived, though I am not an active Christian like Sandman who even uses Gospel ring tone :-), I was keen to attend Bangalore Mizo service. Now the bad luck. Water stopped running,no electricity. So I couldn’t press my clothes and DRESS UP. I did learn after the service that we weren’t alone coming to Church with whatever was OK to wear. And all this time we were unaware of Bangalore’s Sunday violence.

We arrived late to the Church. As I walked in, I saw a familiar looking face near the door (usher, perhaps), I turned to take a good look but couldn’t make out who it was. After taking a seat, I look straight and what a warm welcome. A guy from misual.com was the Chairman! See, we are everywhere :-)

The service ended soon, sooner than I expected. Perhaps, we arrived pretty late. As I walked, again there was the familiar looking face, this time I took an even longer good luck. The creature(God’s beautiful) smiled. I hate myself for this habit of looking at people :-).

During the regular tea party after service, I met Silent_Man, Di Dina, both former Mizo Chennaite. Then came Mr 3x tapping my shoulder from behind, the first to say “Welcome to Bangalore “. Other in the list – ammi, ammi’s friend Kawngtea, Pickles (also her mom), Miss Mary(who taught at Mt Carmel when I was a 10th student there) , Thaari, Spikey’s brother-in-law Pu Joshua and family, Childhood friend Dennis (called Lalpa-a at home) and he now looks really pa with his big muscular gym body, Gospel singer Zorina Pautu. And of course, really glad to meet singer girl Mimi. It’s funny and cool meeting mom like Pi Rinpuii who said , “hey look, this is the guy from misual.com” to a few others around. She said she had good fun reading our stuffs. It was nice to meet you all and I hope to meet more of you out there.

From Wesley’s Church, we left to Silent_man’s house near IIM-B campus for dinner (vawksa rep, if you wanna know) along with ammi and Pu Joshua’s family. Thanks to Silent_Man and Di Dina for their hospitality. Bad luck struck again when night fell. Came News flash on TV “Bangalore tense but calm” and then the worse one “Curfew declared in Frazer Town areas”. It was clear that I couldn’t go home. Even worse, my cellphone wouldn’t turn on. There was no Internet access nearby. I was to report on 22 morning at 9, to new organisation in Electronic City, With my cellphone not working and no access to Internet, I have no way to contact my new organisation. I frequented only those houses with Internet, in Chennai :-)

Monday morning (Yesterday), came back to where I am staying right now, the house of friend from misual.com. Immediately, I rushed to Internet Cafe to get the contact info at my new organisation. I gave a call to the contact person in HR. This is when the good luck came. They have two days joining formality and since I was already late for day one, she suggested I join next Monday!! Wow, what a good news. I was supposed to be free since 15th but was busy preparing for my exodus from Chennai. Thank God, now I got a week long off to rest and relax.

My arrival here is a lot lot different from my arrival in Chennai three years ago. Back there in Chennai, I didn’t now a single Mizo initially. In three years, I made so many friends(and some girl friends :-) ) and I really miss them. I fully accept that I have left Chennai but don’t quite feel that I am in Bangalore, as of now. I think for quite a while I would have a “Chennai Mizo” feeling in my heart.

But here, even on arrival, I already know a lot of Mizos. Most of them, I met on Sunday and I think I’ll meet more. Goldmember didn’t show up on Sunday. So did former classmate C.Lalsangzuala (Sangtea) . I hope to become a “Bangalore Mizo” in no time but for now, I kind of live in vacuum.

Later, I realized in true Goldmember’s style that the familiar looking beautiful face who smiled at me is only an imagination.

    Hi Benjamin,

Heard from ammi that you were coming to B’lore. Too bad I didn’t get to meet you (am one of the sinners – not a regular church guy). Maybe some time soon.

    And, welcome to Bangalore.

    Ciao
