AIZOL TIMES -

Aizawl Sept 5: The reality show that is currently holding the people of Mizoram enthralled cropped its 12 remaining contestants to nine by dropping three contestants last night from the top ten list of Zonet Vision’s Mizo Idol contest while viewers are encouraged to donate towards charity for the Hermon Children’s Home.

The three judges of the contest had selected 12 people for the top ten positions at the last round of contest because three of them had received the same points. As a result of this, three had to be dropped in one go in order for nine to remain in the contest since the top nine obviously cannot have ten contestants in the same manner as in the selection of the top ten where 12 remained in the running.

Those dropped from the contest last night were C. Lalmuanpuii, Ramthar Aizawl, Marina Vanhriatpuii from Kanhmun, Mamit district and Lalruatdiki from Durtlang Leitan. The remaining contestants are C. Lalthlengliana from Durtlang Leitan, Lallawmpuia from Champhai Vengsang, Lalthlamuani from Ramhlun, Aizawl, B. Lalbiakkima from Kulikawn, Aizawl, Freddy Lalremruata from Electric Veng, Aizawl, Lalhmingliana Chhangte from Saiha, Remkimi Cherput from Chhinga Veng, Aizawl, R. Lalhmangaiha from Durtlang Leitan and Alex Lalchhuankima from Chawnpui, Aizawl.

The remaining contestants again contested for the top position by rendering a song they had sung either at the selection of the top 20 or the top ten contestants last night and all the contestants did extremely well.

It was apparent that the judges also found it difficult to make choices because their comments said a lot about what they thought of the performances of the contestants.

Though remaining favourites of the public, Alex Lalchhuankima and Remkimi Cherput were criticized by the judges of having weak voices but praised for knowing how to make up for this lapse.

With two girls and seven boys contesting last night, the TV viewing public of Aizawl is making guesses as to who would be dropped when the results are announced on Friday night and the remaining eight will face the judges again.

Although still a far cry from even the Indian Idol contest, not to mention American idol contest, the Mizo Idol contest remains the most talked about in the state even though the other two cable TV operators are carrying on two other separate reality shows at the same time.

What has given immense value to the Zonet Vision reality show is the charity collection made through the show for Hermon Children’s Home in Durtlang which had been going through difficult times because of lack of funds for tis nearly 200 homeless children.

Appreciating what the show is doing for this Home, people have come forward with monetary contributions of which Rs 50,000 was handed over to the Home’s Mother last night although the intention had been to hand over the whole collection at the end of the show.

Explaining this, Zonet co-owner R.K. Lianzuala told this newspaper today that the money had been handed over because it was sorely needed by the Home’s administrators to purchase things and to pay off debts that had accumulated to a big extent.

“We have not stopped appealing to the public to give contributions and since the children have seemed to touch a soft spot in the public, contributions are still coming in and we appeal and encourage people to step forward to help these poor orphans until the show is over,” Lianzuala said.

A total of 1,826 had initially entered the contest from which around 1,500 to 1,600 contestants participated in the elimination round where 200 contestants were selected for the next round of contests. The participants that still remain in the contest have come through four rounds of hard contesting including the elimination round.

On Friday night in the next round, the contestants can pick any song sung by Lalsangzuali Sailo, Mizoram’s singing sensation whose demise at the age of 57 last year in October had shocked the Mizo people but who later lived on through LPS Vision’s Mizo Icon contest where it was necessary for all contestant to sing a song composed by the late singer as part of this contest held last year-end.
