After bamboo flowering and the subsequent famine, the soldiers of the underground Mizo National Front (MNF) would emerge from the surrounding jungles to take shelter for a night or a couple of days, she said. “Some MNF soldiers used to have food and take shelter for the night at our house. They used to tell us that they were fighting a battle for us so that we do not have to starve again,” Ms. Bawithuami added.
