Aizawl, Sep 3 (IANS) Health officials in Mizoram are worried over recent data that points to promiscuous sex among married people as one of the primary reasons behind the spread of HIV/AIDS in the northeastern state.Mizoram is listed as the seventh highest HIV/AIDS prevalent state in India with the northeast considered a high-risk zone.

“”Extramarital affairs could be the main reason behind this high figure. We have to create an awareness drive for condom acceptance,” said C. Lalsangzuala, regional director of Francois Xavier Bagnoud (FXB), a charity mission working to rehabilitate people living with HIV/AIDS.”

It’s actually kind of complicated Catch 22 position for the Church, as the Church promotes Abstention from premarital sex as well as extramarital sex and promotion of condom would go against their policy, but sad to say reality is quite different. But some Churches in Africa where there is a high rate of AIDS do not object to promotion of condom, coming into terms with reality i guess.
