A bizarre practice of wrapping corpses in polythene bags and burying people who have died of HIV/AIDS in the Christian majority northeastern Indian state of Mizoram has outraged people living with the virus.

‘It is indeed shocking to find people in some parts of the state packing the dead body of a person who has died of HIV/AIDS with polythene sheets or bags during burials,’ Sawmtea, president of the Mizoram People Living with HIV/AIDS Society, told IANS.

I’ve heard of Reverend Rosiama but a Rev Rosiam? Noooo, an duh duh dan hian vai ho lah hi Mizo hming hi an ziak thin a.

It does sound pretty inhuman wrapping corpses in polysheets and suchlike but the way that corpses are handled in Mizoram, well, you can’t be too careful. Nothing to do with Christianity whatsoever. In fact. if you really want to quibble over it, Christianity gives importance to the soul and the unseen and not the flesh and body.

Gorkha Youth of Mizoram Marches Ahead
    ——–by,
    Veejay Chhetri
AIZAWL,Aug 17: The founders of Mizoram Gorkha. Youth Association (MGYA) probably never in their wildest of dreams ever imagined or hoped it would grow and take a firm footing. Founded an August 18, 1976, the NGO has continued to. Take definite shape and establish itself as an influential organisation. Notably, with) the outbreak of insurgency in 1966, people’s normal life was disturbed to a great extent. No wonder life was not as easy, secure and peaceful in the late 60’s and 70’s as it is now. Consequently, the Gorkha organizations like Gorkha Sangh,Nari Samaj( now Mizoram Gorkha Women Federation) and the Sangh Kala Samiti during that period Were in suspended animination. Among them, Sangeet Kala Samiti ceased to. Function. However, in1971 , Nepali Students’ Union(NSU)- now Mizoram Gorkha Students’ Union (MGSU) was established here with the effort of L.B.Chhetri in Mizoram Police Service and noted intellectual Dr.K.L.Pradhan among others , which could function till 1974.However) in spite of its in”fancy, The Students’ Union was able to. leave behind its footprint an the sand of time- lifting the first – ever football tournament held after 1966 – the Pachhunga Memorial Football trophy in 1972, humbling the then football giants of Mizoram, the First Battalion Assam Rifles, Aizawl Amateur Association etc. It may be worth mentioning that after the dissolution of the NSU, avoid accused for several years specially among the youths. In fact youths are basically energetic, restless an loaded with enthusiasm always an a look out far exerting them-selves and to. prove their brain and brawn.
At this juncture, what they require is the right platform and proper guidance, to vent. Out their strong feelings to achieve something. Noble and prove their mettle. But sadly, there was none to guide and inspire. After years of deliberations and apprehensions, the Gorkha Youths of Khatla on the outskirt of duty here mustered enough courage to establish an Association called Mizoram Gorkha Youth Association (MGYA) as an ad hoc committee with aims and objectives to promote games & sports only with its jurisdiction confined to western part of capital Aizawl. August 18,1976is therefore observed with great enthusiasm as the day of foundation of MGYA Dr.K.L.Pradhan was elected its founder president. Significantly, similar’ kind of feeling was also prevailing among the Gorkha youths in other parts of Aizawl. A committee was formed at the residence of late Binu Kr.Thapa at Zodin Circular Road in order to establish a state level youth organisation where intellectuals and youths from different parts of capital assembled. The meeting had then resolved to recognize and accept the MGYA of Khatla- as the organisation of the Gorkha . Youths of Mizoram. In the ensuing meeting, new office-bearers were elected. Among others Buddhi Raja (former MBSE president) and noted intellectual KRGhimire were elected as the president and the general Secretary of the MGYA respectively. Following the influential Young Mizo Association’s (YMA) pattern of functioning, new branches and units came up across the state. U. the process, some of the already existing Gorkha organisations in various pockets of’ Mizoram-Such as ‘Nava Nepali Sangh , of Zotlang;’Jagriti Sangh’ of Dinthar- II and ‘Youth Gorkha Association’s of Kolasib were merged into the MGYA in 1978.Presently,the MGYA has its hqrs at the Aizawl known as Central MGYA, sub hqrs at Saiha and 15 units at -Vairengte, Kolasib, Bualpui, Lunglei, Thuampui, Bawngkawn, Dwi:lang, Rangvamual, Tanhril, Govt.Complex, Zotlang ,Dinthar- II,Bara Bazar,Khatla and Maubawk. Lawipu, including a sub-:section in Kolasib, i.e.-”Rengtekawn section”.It is to be mentioned, the Association’s main area of operations includes, sodal. Philanthropic, cultural, literary and games & sports. Since its inception 30 years ago, MGYA has been relentlessly serving the interests of the Mizoram Gorkha Community in particular and the whole society in general in close cooperation with various state-level social organisations like YMA.
The Current 2006-2008 office bearers of Central MGYA reads as such Hari Bahadur Thapa, Deputy Secretary, Planning Dept. (President); Tamlal Lohar, Deputy Secretary, Mizoram Public Service Commission (Vice- President); Udaye Kumar, Superintendent, School Education Dept.
