Grape is classified into two categories: table and wine grapes.
1. Table grapes are usually seedless and are of different colours, like green, red, blue black grapes and are eaten when fresh. Some low quality wine grapes are also sold as table grapes.
2. Wine grapes are mostly seeded and are used to produce wine by crushing the grapes and fermenting with yeast. . They can be eaten as well. There are varieties of wine grapes, and the wine actually tastes or smells like the grapes (they are really good to smell when one walks past a vineyard).
The taste of wine is not only determined by the type of grapes and barrel used to age it, but also the soil, climate and methods used to ferment the wine.
Instead of using the plastic barrels in Hnahlan, they should have used steel or tin barrels. The tin or steel barrels besides being more hygienic and give better taste to the juice processed, would have given the local craftsmen some income instead of having to spend lots of resources to buy, transport and plant it. It is common now in Europe to used steel barrels instead of wooden ones.
While aged wine is good to taste, I must say that I do like the new wine too, especially when the summer they harvested the grape is a good hot summer.
