Who’s David Lalrinmuana?

Alright, I’ll admit I’m a complete ignoramus when it comes to soccer or its players. But I thought I knew Mizo players pretty well (like Mama and ..the others :) ), but apparently, I don’t. I stumbled across this piece of article about David Lalrinmuana and I have no clue who he is. I’ll admit this is the first time I’ve heard his name.
Anyway, an excerpt from the article here -
‘Every morning in Durgapur, a dusty, little town some 150 km from Kolkata, a 13-year-old with fast feet and nerves of steel wakes up with just one thought in his head - football. In Manchester, in the Nike-sponsored under-15 football tournament, David Lalrinmuana, through sunshine and rain, bruised ankle notwithstanding, blazed his way into the minds of the talent scouts here.’
Full article here.

What I want to point out are these lines from the article -
‘His talent found a stage in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup, where his Higher Secondary School team made the quarterfinals, following which the Assamese boy earned the Bagan call up.’

Assamese boy??? Am I misunderstanding something here or did PRAJWAL HEGDE say Lalrinmuana’s Assamese?

Well, if I interpreted that wrong, shoot me. But if the writer actually did say the subject of his article is Assamese, well, all I can say is that he needs to do his homework first before submitting it on national paper. Especially since he also mentioned -

‘Earlier this year, Lalrinmuana was literally picked off the streets of Zemabawk Aizawal in Mizoram, where he plied his trade after school hours everyday.’

I also have to add that I would have expected someone who writes for Indiatimes to know such basic stuffs, even without doing his homework. I would expect school kids to know that Assamese people are people from Assam, or that people from Mizoram are called Mizos. I understand when they get mixed up and call us Mizorams, Mizoramis et al. But I just can’t understand ‘Assamese’!

But anyways always good to see Mizo names. Kind of funny how back home, you care little for people you don’t know. But the moment you step out of the state, it feels like every person with a Mizo name is your brother, someone you’re personally responsible for, someone who’s victories you have the right to exult with.

Umm.. could it be possible that David Lalrinmuana is really Assamese, maybe an Assamese christened with a Mizo name perhaps because he was born in Mizoram?? :)
(If so, my apologies, Mr. Hegde)
