“Numbers indicate that a student coming out of IIM is better off than a student coming out of Wharton and Harvard. Statistics reveal that a student out of Harvard placed in London gets $10,5000 and the average overseas offer for an IIM graduate is $115,000, that’s a $10,000 advantage,” says Travis Edward Donselman, student, IIM Kolkata.

Most professors in IIMs / IITs or do it for the love of the profession / subject more than the money. Money is a hygiene factor, thats all. A good number are succesful industry veterans as well. There’s definitely something which pulls them there.
But yes, they earn a lot from consulting. But there are some things money can’t buy and there are people whose needs are at a different layer altogether.

I do agree a junior faculty of IITM get just $600 pm+accommodation. but why Dr. Murali Krishnan left his post at Taxas A&M University and join IITM as asst. professor!!!
The professors have their own research projects. Besides, as u have said, about 35% of about 1 bn rupees per annum consultancy fees go to the faculty.

@ Aryan - I dont think its very reliable son..its a blog with a long long lines of what goes on in the mind of the blogger( atleast I think so coz he did not put any relevant source) See the comment underneath the article from the real IIT students. Seems more concrete to me.
