No hassle for Zoremthanga as CYMA prez again

Aizawl Sept 24: For present the incumbent, retaining the post of president of the most powerful non-government organization in the state is going to be a walk-over since no else will be contesting for this job, an informed source from the Central Young Mizo Association said today.
With the annual YMA general conference slated to be held from October 16 where the office bearers of the Central YMA will be elected, the buzz is now all about who will be the next batch of leaders in the most powerful NGO of the state. The CYMA has brought out a notice announcing 12 nominees for the six office bearers’ posts where surprisingly present general secretary C. Zoramliana’s name was not among them.
According our source, Zoramliana has elected to opt out of the race because he preferred to remain in the sidelines to avoid the kind of campaigns and politicking that past CYMA OB elections had spawned.
This was confirmed by Zoramliana when this paper talked to him this evening who said he had thought it best not to contest the elections because if he contested it, it would be for the post of vice-president which will also be contested by former CYMA president and present vice-president post incumbent T. Sangkunga who was much elder to him and it would be disrespect to an elder to oppose him.
“Having held the post of general secretary for four years for two consecutive terms, I believe I must move on to the next higher post which is the post of vice-president. However, since my elder Pu Sangkunga will be contesting for this post and since we are all office bearers, I have decided to stay on the sidelines this time to avoid any situation of politicking cropping up among the electors and out of respect for an older person,” Zoramliana said.
T. Sangkunga, however, may have a tough job in keeping his post because he will be having two other contenders for this post unlike his president who will in all likeliness retain his post uncontested. According to the informed source from the CYMA, Dr Lalbiakmawia Ngente, an engineer from Bungkawn locality and Lalchungnunga of Ramhlun North will be contesting for the vice-president post too. And Lalchungnunga seems to be the favourite for the VP post if the source is to be believed.
Another sitting office bearer who will no difficulty in getting elected could be the present assistant secretary Lalruatkima who appears to have no opponent for the post of general secretary for which he is likely to contest. Sitting incumbent of the post of Treasurer Vanlalrema Rokhum is also likely to get re-elected to the same post because he is also likely to have no opponent.
The CYMA source said the post that will have the most contenders will be the assistant secretary post where it is likely that four official nominees would contest. Peter Lalzawmliana of Bungkawn, Vanlalruata of Tuikual South, Lalbiakzuala of Khatla and J. Lalsailova of Mission Veng are those likely to contest for this post.
Another post that will have more than one contender will be the finance secretary post. R. Lalngheta of Hlimen, the present incumbent will have an opponent in D. Lalrintluanga of Bethlehem.
