Crops rats don’t eat

According CM Zoramthanga, the only way to keep rats at bay is to grow crops that rats wouldn’t eat.
Hmmm! What are those crops? Will such crop grow in Mizoram? Why is he saying this only now?
The source also said:
Mizoram is in the grip of a famine-like situation after countless rodents have destroyed paddy crops in more than 20 villages
Is the situation that serious? I have been all this time of the believe that everyone in the rural areas depend almost solely on rice purchased at subsidised rate as ration from retailer. As I know, locally produced rice which we call Mizo buh isn’t cooked all by itself but mixed with ration rice which are often of poor quality.
I got a feeling MNF’s handling of the situation will decide their fate in the next election.

What about using powerful pesticide that will kill all rats and is totally harmless to human beings? Or a fertilizer that will produce abundant crop which kills rats when they ingest it?
