Aizawl, August 2: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Bilkhawthlir branch has restricted movement of non-Mizos in their village for two days from today after an unfortunate incident occurred in Phaipheng on Monday night.
Speaking to this paper, Kolasib SP Lalbiakthanga said that two Mizos who were working to build a farm house went to visit a non-Mizo who lived near their place of work. Given the recent Dholai and its consequences, the non-Mizo, working at a field of a Mizo, attacked the two Mizos thinking they were trying to pick a fight with him. The non-Mizo took a knife and managed to inflict a two and a half inch long wound on the head of one of the Mizos which was not very serious.
The non-Mizo was taken away by the police but a case was, however, not filed as he managed to reach an agreement with the Mizo victim. Sources have reported that the non-Mizo paid the injured Rs. 12,000 as medical aid for treatment of the injury.
After hearing the news, the MZP of Bilkhawthlir had an emergent meeting where they passed a resolution to impose a two-day movement restriction of all non-Mizos in Bilkhawthlir to show their annoyance with the unfortunate incident that occured in Phaipheng.
SP Lalbiakthanga told this paper that as non-Mizos are few in Bilkhawthlir, the movement restriction would not have much effect on the everyday live of anyone in the village.
