Sangzuala Hmar on Mizos and Music

December 18th, 2006 7:13 pm by TheHumanBot

Again, is this a coincidence? Looks to me the man is really into writing more about the positive aspects of us, given that this article has nothing new. But except for Christian communities in other parts of India, who know us and our music already, I am sure it would be news to many readers of National papers.

When Mizos are happy they sing, when they are sad they sing. Right from the days of their forefathers, music has been the soul that binds all Mizos.

Other quotable quotes from the article:

“As long as there is music, Mizos will be around. Despite the low economic position we hold, we are unmatched when it comes to music.”
-Michael M. Sailo

“Even though the Mizos lack a complete music devotee and a true professional, I cannot deny the fact that music has a power in the hearts of the Mizos that can never be suppressed.”
– Makuka

Soccer player S. Malsawmtluanga of the East Bengal team has been a chief guest at concerts and audio release functions. For him, Vanlalsailova’s hit song “Zoram Tang Fan Fan” and Lalrindiki Khiangte’s “Mizoram Tan” are an inspiration.

Someone told me the other day that freelance journos in India are usually given a topic to write about which they’re supposed to submit by a certain date etc. For instance the top brass may order them to do a write-up on rape so they’re supposed to go out and hunt down local happening rapes (sic). Definitely not my idea of freelancing but having said that, I’d think they still have a choice in how they present their topics… coolly and intellectually, statistically and common-sense based, or just plain sensationalised. If CK-a has decided to get more positive, hey, as far as I’m concerned that’s fabulous.

that may be true J……..let him feed his family ……..all these quotes we heard from our christian missionary there is nothing new…………

life is not that easy…..sangzuala hmar have his own life ……… he may tarnish mizo image …but what can we do….he is doing to earn a bread……no one give him a penny also if he dont write…………

let us recall ,,we are no longer in a tribal society…we are in a society which is no longer tribal…….

sangzuala hmar is only the result of this transformation…he is not the cause……………he is only one of the actor in this neo-mizo society……….calling him “fat ass” would not solve the problem…….let us look back ourselve…….

even if sangzual hmar is not here ” there would be so many people to fill his role…….”thousands of fat ass” i believe hehehehhehe

I have a far off family, who have gone to Israel last month, they led a pretty sucky life in Mizoram, they were very hard working yet poor. Poor enough to think that they were Jews and life would be better in the Promise land. I wish them the best.
There are lots of people in Mizoram who live under BPL who served ‘thingpui sen hang’ along with ‘chaw thring’ as they can not afford milk, sugar and biscuits. People still live in the single room bamboo house lit up by a single 60 watt bulb. I am sure these people would gladly slaughter their egg laying hen if one turned up for dinner unannounced. That is why I love Mizoram so much and I would embrace it any day just the way it is?

Is it so hard to accept that Mizos are an extremely progressive Scheduled Tribe who live in one of the most remote and backward area of India? Or that Pu Zoramthanga’s fat lips is actually the only machine that contributes to the state’s income?
It true Mizoram has many facets, not all of them are nice and shiny.
I don’t understand why you all have to fret over what Sangzuala writes anyway, its probably just Mizo people who read want he writes anyway. Since when did people give a fu#k about Mizoram, they don’t even know where it is?

Leave the work to the workplace, if a person does a bad job, criticize his work and NOT HIM. A taka hria kan awm a, he is a really good person, good sense of humour and very open-minded..Its kinda irritating now that we misual have been fretting him consistently, we all know that he acknowledged our complaints and hence positive articles thereafter..well for me personally even if he write abt the bad image of Mizos, I dont mind, I love my motherland but sometimes its not the land but the people that spoils it atleast he is brave enough to write abt it, maybe its not the most desired article but we’re no perfect state, and thats how it is(there’re no perfect states in the world)..its time to look at his work and not his personality.
Bawngboy: u saying no one gives a f#*k abt Mizoram, and they dont even know where it is, well atleast Sangzuala is trying to get it out there..
And to thos who called him ‘fat arse’, if u see him, u’d be thinking, he could be the last guy on earth who could have a fat arse…
