After one hundred years of Christianity, it’s hard to imagine how we came to this crossroad. We have had our cup of joy by shaking off our old beliefs, embracing and marrying with Christianity. We have the so called Revival Speakers, moving around the villages and cities, trying to revive and kindle the candle which once was lighted by Welsh Missionaries.
We have been sending out missionaries to spread the good news; we’ve even had people who gave up their lives for the glory of Christ. Churches are there to be found even in remote places where modern developments seem to ignore; every hamlet is graced by a church or two. This here is a nation, where almost every ten-year old child can tell the story of Jesus. This here is a nation, claiming to be a Christian nation.
As we move along with the ever changing world, we became one of the many nations who got swept off their feet by western culture. We copied almost everything that a white man does and in the process got our identity mixed up. We are falling and the worst part is not the fact that we are losing our Mizo identity but ‘we are not aware of what is happening and how we are going to end up.
Professing to believe in something is easy if you don’t really meant it. It’s like making promises without committing yourself into it. We know just too well how a true Christian should live his life. The right path has been laid before us by true Christians whose names would be forever remembered wherever the church bell rings on Sundays, but, we find it so hard to walk on this path. Why so? Because, instead of focusing on the way shown by those who have gone before us, we chose to look around us.
Yes, we looked around us and found Christians engaging in corruption, forgeries, abortions, adultery etc and thus tempted to do the same. An unprincipled life then strays away from good to bad – the worst part is, we excuse ourselves for doing the same things which are being done by people around us, ‘If he can do it and get away with it, why can’t I?’ How many Christians will there be in Mizoram, who have the guts to say ‘no’ to sins and walk away from bad things?
The prevalence of corruption, drug abuse, under aged sexual activities do not seem fit for a Christian nation. We are being blinded by our thirsts for money and power. Altars in the churches are infested with big mouthed politicians; pastors and church elders gossip and pull one another down. Churches remain places of worship only for few, but for many, they have become places for fashion shows and meeting friends. Many of us go to church on Sundays as a tradition, but not to worship God. Many of us don’t really believe in what we claimed to believe, yet we call ourselves Christians! This here is a nation, claiming to be a Christian nation!
Two roads are laid before us. We can not take both the roads. We have to choose either one.

Judas Iscariot was one of the disciples of Jesus….he kept a “money bag”!… Eventhough, Jesus might have foreseen Judas’ evil intention, He was never outwardly critical towards Judas. However, Jesus promises eternal life only to those who are faithful to him till the end. The other apostles were faithful to him. Likewise, imposters may infest the churches. However, there are many more who are not enticed by wealth or materialism and who are true to their faith. Why do we always have eyes for small fractions of defect? we need to look at the positive / good side as well….te ka tia ni!…huhuhu
I would agree on the fact that Western culture has flawed our society. Traditionally, ours is based on the collectivism culture. But with the coming of Christianity, naturally, we began to look to the west (which is a predominantly Christian society…so, it’s unsurprising that we find it easier to embrace Western lifestyle) rather than mainland Indian culture….te ka tia…huhuhu. Obviously, the elements of the so called Western culture (rather Korean?) such as individualism, materialism, sexual norms -free thinking of sex have all diffuse into our society accelerated by the force of advancement in communication technologies…te ka tia hohoho…..

Not me….Engmah ka hre lo….I’m just stating my views….te ka tia….Nevertheless, when it comes to the issue of sex, I would consider myself a conservative – who doesn’t believe in sex before marriage, who hold it as a ‘sacred affair’ to be shared by ‘HUSBAND’ and ‘WIFE’ only….te ka tia….conservative as we understand, of course, suggests traditionalist or purist or whatever…..Whether you like to accept it or not, this surely implies something. Nia…there’s no question of comparing the yester-years and today in any area. However, specifically, I would be flattered if you could kindly point out exemplar on how liberal we were actually.
