AIZAWL, June 7 (UNI) :: The ‘naturally air-conditioned’ atmosphere of Mizoram will soon be a thing of past, as the state has experienced the highest rate of global warming over the past 15 years.
Quoting official records, state Environment and Forest Minister R Lalthangliana said the temperature in Mizoram had increased by 2.75 degrees Celsius over the past 15 years against the average increase in global surface temperature of 0.6-2.5 degrees Celsius.

One of the reasons is because we mizos are not at all educated when it comes to taking care of the environment. Aizawl must be the most barren cities in India (or even in the world for that matter) – there was a nice big tree near treasury square – even that was cut down a few years ago ! Even when it comes to birds and animals, the first reaction is to shoot them !
I feel schools should stress a lot on taking care of the environment – so that at least the new generation is conscious of this and make try and undo the damage that we have done.

I agree with Mizopa about the barrenness of Aizawl city (“Aizawl must be the most barren cities in India (or even in the world)”. Please try to get photo of any other city drier than Aizawl, including cities in or close to Sahara, Gobi. Thar or Kalahari deserts, you may be surprised that they always have quite a few trees or even parks. It certainly is the driest city in India, physically and otherwise (no alcohol, at least legally)
