“Tour of Oxon Cove Park/Oxon Hill Farm”
Come on out to Oxon Cove Park/Oxon Hill Farm. We are a unit of
the National Park Service. We have 500 acres of land
overlooking Washington D.C. just next to the New National
Harbor. The park was formed in 1967 to preserve the historical,
cultural, and environmental treasuers along the Anacostia and
Potomac River’s. The park interpretive themes focuses on: the
Native Americans of the Potomac Valley, the DeButts family and
their story of immigration, Plantation Life at Mount Welby
(19th Century name of Oxon Cove Park), Pre and Post American
Revolutionary Slavery on the Tidewater, the War of 1812 and the
attack on Washington City, and the story of the Underground
Railroad on the Potomac. I would very much enjoy giving
everyone tours, introducing everyone to our livestock as we are
a working farm (Belgium horses, cows, turkeys, sheep, goats,
chickens, and pigs), as well as taking everyone for a 45 minute
ride on our park tractor.
