When dancing paints a story ( literally ) – The art of Bboyism,.

A little note about the crew and their inspirations on others.

Whatever you do, do not leave this page without watching the video ( that is if your connection is not dial-up ). The crew name is Expression, they are from Korea. They were 2nd place in the world championship in 2001, they came back the next year after being the top crew in Korea, they faced the same crew in the final but this time, they won! Since then they have brought motivation, faith to their country and till 2006 ( 2007 I am not very sure ) Korea has been winning the world championship. The crew stopped battling for fame after they won in 2002 but instead focus more on expressing through their dance. Its something to give up their fame for what they believe in and that is why even the top crew anywhere around the world respect them so much. Now watch the video!!

How did this inspire me?

Any older Misual.com members all know I love bboying. Well it has been years since I first got my hands in this dance. This summer however was different, though I love to break, my enthusiasm was at the brim of extinction, I didn’t go to practice and would just let events slide by until I caught this show a few weeks ago. The translation of this show, the dance, the co-ordination is so motivating that I began to understand the term ” dance to express not to impress ” more clearly. When we perform or for that matter even when we practice, we always have people stopping to watch us, talking to us and I will not lie, females that would never even stare at us otherwise would just come up to us, other genre dancers like hiphop or anything else would just make room for us when we cypher, all because its something difficult to learn something that catches the eyes.

Looking back I realised now that I have been dancing to please others. If I write down the list of moves I learnt over the years it would be pretty long but was I ever good in my eyes? NO! Was I learning these moves for myself? NO! Why was I learning them? It is because I do not realised the meaning it has and was concentrating on all the fancy moves that could just please the eyes of my audience. However, watching this performance made me realised, the beauty of the dance again, that one does not need to do any fancy moves but instead one needs to dance to interpret his/her expression meaningfully to others which is more valuable then any amount of prize or fame because this brings happiness to people around you and also most importantly to yourself.

I am not a writer, even now I still cannot put out what I feel inside completely in words and sentences so you might not even understand a thing I just said but I did not write this for anyone in particular, a note to self, a reminder to everyone that maybe if one day you see me dancing somewhere, you would remember this and say it to yourself, ” Well he is not very good as I thought but atleast he is dancing for himself and no one else”.

Well yeah a lot of people here dont take it seriously I guess and I understand. Dance to a mizo tlangval is d-a-n-c-e haha its general, I dont know who would categorized it among us but there are alot to it and to people who arent dancing, it can still motivate them u know. Honestly speaking Im also really bias when it comes to dancing, I like breaking and then like many other bboys, I just dont like hiphop dancing(which is not a very good attitude). Either way i understand every bits and pieces of how as a mizo community feels abt it.
