Microsoft proposes to buy Yahoo! for $44.6 billion

REDMOND, Wash. — Feb. 1, 2008 — Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) today announced that it has made a proposal to the Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) Board of Directors to acquire all the outstanding shares of Yahoo! common stock for per share consideration of $31 representing a total equity value of approximately $44.6 billion.

    it’s because Yahoo is not doing very well!

    Yahoo! has a hard time this year and plans 1,000 job cuts in February 2008. The total returns of Yahoo dropped 32% in 2007.

    14300 total employees, on hearing that the news that yahoo will be laying off some percentage of their employees, stock dropped by 8%.     Yahoo would consider an alliance with Google as one way of avoiding a takeover by Microsoft, it was reported in the US last night.
