Reminiscence down memory lane.

Remember those days my darling, a long time ago,
when you and I would cuddle, inside Zodin cinema hall.
Days before Lengpui, days even before Prohibition,
when we both professed, our undying love to each other.
Me and my rusty jeep, you and your beloved khaini,
Oh how our World then, seemed so tiny and small.

Remember when we used to listen, to my dad’s old radio,
in leather jackets, always rebelling, trying to be cool.
Rewinding cassettes manually, using paper or pen,
listening to songs like, “Talk dirty to me” and “Beth”.
Or how Chris Norman’s “Some hearts are diamonds”
never fails to make, our two hearts beat like one.

How I miss those days, when you and I would walk,
up and down the dreamy hill, to an uncertain destination.
On the rugged road, long before the footpaths were built,
from Chanmari to Chaltlang, from Bawngkawn to Durtlang.
A moment never to forget, as passion overpowered us,
from our heads to our feet, from our hearts to our minds.

You and I would just sit, on the edge of that steep peak,
watching the scenic clouds above, change their shapes again.
Or the virgin mists below, slowly enveloping the distant hillside;
In a way that’s what our love, was actually all about.
A love that gradually envelopes, all doubts and uncertainties,
paving its way slowly, for trust, comfort and togetherness.

Remember how you and I, used to hold hands and lie down,
watching the junky Vayudoot, skid and land at tuirial airport.
How we used to joke and laugh, as you lay in my scrawny arms,
about how life must be like, beyond Tuirial, beyond Silchar.
Those were before the high-rise, completely shadowed our city,
Yet we both swore together, never to be apart from each other.

Now the tape recorder’s gone, the VCR’s busted.
I haven’t worn my Defendor jacket, in a long long time.
With the internet invasion, I cannot even remember,
when was the last time, I even wrote you a letter.
Our once a simple life, is now replaced by bustling activities,
marred by technology, overran by cellular phones.

Life is easier for us now, everything is just a click away.
But in a way I do miss, the good old days of yore.
I miss your eyes, early in the morning, droopy yet beautiful,
as we walk to fetch water, from the crystal clear brook below.
I miss your sweet serene smile, especially when you look at me;
The Sun hasn’t risen yet, but my World was already bright.

Now here I am today, all alone, living in tomorrow’s dream,
thinking of our yesteryear, wallowing in nostalgia.
Memories are all I have now, like a whisper in the wind,
a feeling that cannot be felt, but forever cherished and loved.
The brook that we treasured, has long dried up and disappeared,
but the memories of us together, will be kindled for eternity.
