Silchar’s The Mizoram Post is Mizoram’s “largest” paper
Thursday, January 18th, 2007Aizawl, January 15, 2007 (Newslink): The Mizoram Post, an English daily edited and published from Silchar (Assam), has been granted accreditation by the Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity (DAVP) as the largest circulated newspaper in Mizoram.
According to Aizawl-based Zozam Weekly, which carried the story in its Januray 16-23 issue, The Mizoram Post has claimed itself as 58156 copies in each issue to get the DAVP’s accreditation, which is an “outright lie”.
The advantage of DAVP’s accreditation is that the paper is entitled for Central government’s advertisements.
“This is a very serious case where people from outside Mizoram get what is meant for local people. It is very sad that an outsiders’ paper is using Mizo name to get money from the Centre. Something has to be done. The local journalists’ association, as well as the Information department, have to look into the matter,” publisher of a local newspaper was quoted as saying by the Zozam Weekly.

Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
Youre on my mind
