12 ka zawk hlim in Kan khua High School a clerk hian Aizawl khawngah “Mizoram ah hian (computer) hna hi a awm vak si lova” tihin a sawi a. That was after telling him I was to do computer science in college.
I reacted. It made me furious. I replied in a not so friendly tone “Mizorama thawk kher ka tum hlei nem”.
The discussion never continued.
That was summer of 2000.
Thinking back, I don’t blame him. Being a clerk in a high school in a village, one may not have broad outlook.
However, he did not understand his words were discouraging. Luckily, I converted it into a challenge and motivation.

@benjamin : While we were explaining what Y2K means you were into computer science and that made you what you are today. In real terms we are now in a new millennium, in a digitized world where we got to compete globally (no tribal qouta) in this global village. Locally (here in Mizoram) Technology has not taken off except all those gizzmos but in real world it has taken on a life of its own, forcing change to which we have to adjust (even misual.coming). SMS has replaced something called “love letters”. We are forced to learn new skills before we have mastered the older ones. But we must go on here or out there to find secure job more importanlly the youth of our people called Mizo. Give lilltle peace of advice to help them stand on firm foundation thru the experience you guys got and make a little more effort tho yuo did so much but we (Mizo) need more

Mizoram is not lacking behind in job opportunities/employment but what is really lacking/less here is, ‘ideas, plans, and the courage to initiate new field of employment.’ Music/singing can/has now became a profession among the Mizos. This is still just a recent happening, and it could be recordable happenings of the decade or even the century in the history of the Mizos. If I sounds exaggerating, still no doubt, its a record worthy happening. As a result, music training instt., voice training instt., more of recording studios, musics shops/outlets, etc. has came up and it has added up not only our field of employment but also line of professions for the Mizos, as this was not only a ‘non professional line’ for the Mizos but also a never dreamt to be possible line until recently. Similarly, there will be many other ‘music like lines,’ which we just need a little more ideas about and initiate it. Until then, it will be and it will even more be difficult, day after anothers.

‘A Job’ to me is “something that i need to spend my time, energy and my head on, which will give me returns for my services in kind or in cash”. For me a job should not me against the ideological norms of the society nor be against my religious belief. To simply put it, i and my family should be happy with my job.
Jobs just don’t come out from the air. Nor does the govt have unlimited supplies of postings. And the most important thing is, the govt isnt the only one that can give jobs.
