Hei hi nichiiinah ka va mail tawh a, editor hnenah, mahse response chu ka la dawng lova…
———————
Dear Editor,
Please define drunk.
Drunk is when a person behaves like a drunkard due to the influence of alcohol (and there are witnesses around to testify to that). Drunk is when a person loses control over his normal self due to alcohol and it DOES NOT depend upon the amount of alcohol the person drank as it vary from person to person (and at certain times, it depends upon current physical health condition).
So how did the reporter get the medical report that “the two Mizos in the accident” were drunk? And how drunk? Were there any blood alcohol level medical tests done? If so, why was this not in the report?
By insensitively announcing that the two Mizos were drunk, you seem to give a clean chit to the truck driver (believe me, that is the opinion the public will have), and then you mentioned in the same news that the truck driver has been booked for “causing death due to rash and negligent driving”.
So it is a little bit confusing for us to know whose fault is it now. Do you mean to say both parties were wrong? Well, two wrongs do not make a right, and the fact that you’ve unprofessionally used the word “drunk” is highly unacceptable. The incident took place at 1 in the morning so I assume there were a lot of people around at that time who saw the two Mizos behave drunkenly before the accident???
If the whole report is based on the medical (or coroner)’s report which may have stated that their alcohol level was above the limit, then the most professional way the reporter could have written was about that, and not use a vague universal word as “drunk”. It’s a matter of semantics here. That is very insensitive to us, especially when many of us are painfully grieving the loss of a life.
Regards,
Kima.
