I think the title of this Reuters report is quite misleading. What I noticed was that he was complaining about the record. Anywayz my take on modern music is that it’s all a bunch of cr@p. All we hear is bubblegum music and some guys comin’ over with lyrics that ends with the word “f@ck”, and are they’re not even singing, they’re talking. But i guess everyone thinks that the music in their generation was the best. *gives a big grin*
I just think that Dylan is over hyped. What did he do to music that everyone needs his “expert” opinion!
“You listen to these modern records, they’re atrocious, they have sound all over them,” he added. “There’s no definition of nothing, no vocal, no nothing, just like … static.”
Dylan said he does his best to fight technology, but it’s a losing battle.
I love this part:
Noting the music industry’s complaints that illegal downloading means people are getting their music for free, he said, “Well, why not? It ain’t worth nothing anyway.“

I don’t find him “great”. He’s an egomaniac. My opinion actually!

What Dylan did was bring music to a new age and inspire a new generation of artists… Judas Priest to GnR, Norah Jones to Sheryl Crow… A to Z.

Just that you do not listen to the GREAT man and his music does not mean he is not Great. I don’t listen much but know enough to realise that without this GREAT man there would be a huuuuge gap in the music culture, history or whatever.

Silent-man, I just find him a good songwriter…that’s all. I DO listen to his music.
But what did he do to music? Did he change music more than say Mozart, Segovia, Coltrane, Miles Davis, or say Hendrix, ?

What he is actually complaining about seems to be the recording company’s method of treating music. The music that we get in the market are highly compressed… it is a rule in the industry to deliver as much dB as possible. this surely is a deviation from the method of the older days where ‘space’ was an important part of the music and mixing process. take for example the song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen where you can distinctly find 3 ‘level’… it starts out softly and graudually builds up the levels.
In the scene today, they would just compress the whole song and make it into a loud and punchy song.
Arrgggg… ka soi peih tohlo

My take is that he’s talking about the audio quality of this mp3/ipod generation, where everything is digitized. It seems that analog recording had a much better quality (beng fing tan chuan!)

hehe .. just went thru it …..if bob says its worthless, then he has a point…. and for those that cant see the purity of life and love and anythin that bob or those of his kinds jingle about….then its their loss….. and its a great loss…… anyways, you can`t except everyone to love bob and his music, coz its only for people with good healthy taste :)… for people who are still looking for purity in a song …… no offence ( Kick me if ya want :D) cheers !!!!

He said the songs sounded better in the studio… which most likely means the record company made changes in the mastering stage, over which the artists usually have no control. Although analog audio is theoritically of better quality than digital (coz digital recording will always be in terms of bits and bytes, so never a true replication, just as a digital picture will always have pixels if you zoom) the technology is so advanced today that it would take superman to know the difference.

I think this is not the right place to discuss Bob Dylan or his greatness or whatever..I like many of his songs…I even send some of his songs to Virgochass and I think she was impressed ……
Opinion differs…but I d rather not be influenced by people who may not even know 10 of his songs….
Here are some of my favorites Bob Dylan song…Listen to them if you like:
1. With God on our Side
2. Master of War.
3. License to kill
4. Desolation Row
5. I shall be released
A hla mi sak kan hriat zawk mah te:
1. To make you feel my love
2. Blowing in the Wind
3. Knocking on Heaven’s door

If any artist is to comment on the quality of songs these days…audio, lyrics or whatever, then Bob Dylan is the man…even if he is old…cos Old is Gold…
Jazz 4 an example..compare these two lyrics if you have time.. then you will know what I mean…both are likeable in their own way..But….

it really is a losing battle, but what can i/we say. they so call it modernazation or whateva.. even in our very own MIZO music world, lets forget abt the Music(zo rimawi insturment ri remkhawm etc). talk abt Lyric flow, poetry word we r losing. make me sad cuz losing the things that i’m being very proud of is falling. Using sound track kill or next step . this is the way i see.
So sadddddddddd

No doubt about that, we too are royal pains in the ass! But at least we don’t go around shooting everyone down because they don’t like the kind of music we do, or act so high and mighty because we think we have a “deeper understanding” of music. We don’t pretend our music transforms us to a ‘higher-level of consciousness’ and the rest of the music lover, “don’t know anything” quote unquote!
Give us some slack..people are wired differently, if they don’t share the same tastes/likes/dislikes, that doesn’t mean they are lesser human beings or know less than you do!

Yeah true…What Bob actually comment seems to be the recording company’s method of treating music…
But Bob Dylan likes double meaning sentence or words..and knowing the guy..Its easy to bend your thoughts…that way..
When Bob Dylan was asked about smoking grass or doping, his answer was:
“Its sometimes good to bend your thoughts..Infact..everybody must bend their thoughts…”
So bend it anyway you like……but not like beckham…for he only knows how to bend his balls not his thoughts..
