On account of content submission

September 5th, 2006 4:29 am by trekkerboy

It’s really great to see increasing content submission from many of you out there. Really good to have people from Aizawl giving us latest local news, pictures etc.

It would be nice to have news from wherever you are, news that would be of common interest. I am in Chennai, we got Sandman in Mumbai, Goldy in Blore and a bunch of people up North, some from Hyd. Anybody from Pune, Kolkata. All these years, I haven’t met anyone online from Kolkata. Could this be becuase Kolkata has good Mizo crowd, peeps unless they are net fanatic don’t hang out online as much as Mizos from other metros do? Kolkata Mizo welfare is btw the only one among the four metros without a website.

Coming to content submission, there are a few issues I would like to address.

1) Source

Unless it’s your own creation, always mention the source irrespective of the source asking you to do so or not. Do look for the terms and conditions at the source.

2) Avoid copy-pasting the whole article

Quote a few lines ,preferably followed by your own opinion, reaction to the content being submitted.

3) Formatting

I come across many articles on the net which I would just skip because of poor formatting. I generally avoid lengthy columns (spreading too long left to right). I believe having smaller paragraphs makes it more readable. I think having sub-title wherever it fits helps people to skip and jump to some other lines when they don’t feel like or don’t the time to go thru top to bottom.

4) How cool is that?

Avoid submitting mail forwards and jokes from elsewhere unless you got one real cool and something that isn’t around floating inbox-inbox .

5) My post doesn’t appear?

Look under whois on the sidebar, unless you find yourself there, you cannot publish content yourself and your submission goes thru moderation for the simple reason of avoiding *CRAP*. It should appear as draft though. Do not create another one for the same post.

6) Choose the right category

Default is Things. Use this only if you find none of the other categories fit.

Finally….

Said and done. We, the administrators and editors are by no means perfect and bound to make false judgments as we reject and approve your submission, which we really value. Also remember that the points I mentioned are by no means hard and fast rule, there can be exceptions. I request editors to consult each other. Sometimes, I make correction and make exception since I respect the time one had spent.

Eat well, take care of yourself and keep posting.

Thanks

-benjamin

    Technical query: [Totally off-topic]

This query is not related to misual.com but I didn’t know where else to post them. I have a serious problem with my comp. Computer techies, plz help.

For the past few months, my comp has been acting crazy. I use 3 HDDs and 1 DVD drive. Lately, during start-up, one of those hardwares is usually not detected. I thought it was the data cable problem but even after buying two new data cables, the problem still persist. It was not the HDD/Drive problem either as they were detected and perfectly running at a friend’s comp. Later after much experimentation, I realized it’s the power cable problem. Depending on how I adjust the power cable connecting to the hard-disk, the device is detected in the BIOS.

At first, I stopped using my DVD drive and was happy with 3 HDDs that were still detected. And then slowly, using 3 HDDs was a problem, so I had to resort to using 2 HDDs. Now I am even getting problems on letting two devices getting detected on my comp. I have to struggle for hours, adjusting and re-adjusting the power cable just to detect them. And if I shake my CPU by mistake, sometimes, the comp hangs because it cannot detect the HDD anymore.

Plz help. Is it possible to buy a new power cable box, the whole SMPS thingie, or do I have to buy a new mother-board or a new cabinet-box entirely? Do computer stores actually sell those stuff alone? If they do sell it, is it possible to change it by myself or is the thingie welded to the mother-board or the external skeletal frame? And how much does it cost?

    Thanx.

Start-up a pianga “del” key hmeh char char a ninawm tawh khawp mai! Ka “del” key chu a tlum quit tawh, “Delete” tih in ziak pawh a reh vek tawh :-)
