Well, this book was the only companion during my 10 days vacation. This is the kind of book that you wait for years. Its an adventure, a love story, an inside look at the way the Mumbai mafia operated during the 80’s, tortures that happen behind the jails in Mumbai, the mujahedin and the character you’ll fall in love with is Prabaker-the tourist guide who takes our main protagonist, Shantaram aka Lindsay aka Lin’baba’, to his village, takes him to his slum after Lin is broke, makes him learn Marathi and Hindi.
The book cost me 500 bucks, but definitely worth every penny, is 920 pages long, but every page is worth a read. Definitely the book of the year, i should say. I have finished reading it, will read it again. 
BUY IT!
BTW, i heard that Johnny Depp is starring in a movie based on this book.

Oh, BTW Depp is producing and acting in the movie and will be scripted by Roth, scriptwriter of movies such as Forrest Gump and Ali. Just can’t wait!

i bought it for 100/- bucks on the roadside.. am somewhere in the middle..
this damn football business prevents me from finishing the book… rambling on..
there is a “shantaram” tour in mumbai.. guides take u to all the places Gregory frequented in Mumbai… yes there is a Leopold’s cafe in Mumbai =)
interesting.. Depp wud do very well for the role of Shantaram
