Sunday 22nd October 2006 will see two pairs of football rivals take on each other on the playing fields of Spain and England
two great British football teams Manchester United and Liverpool will be taking on each other – The rivalry between these two teams goes back many years. Arsenal fans may think Manchester United fans may hate Arsenal FC and its fans but the Mancs even respectfully despise Liverpool FC and its fans a lot more. Only one player in the history of English football has played for both Liverpool and Manchester United and he currently is now hiding out in a tent in the South Pole;
Both teams have superstar players such as Shrek (Wayne Rooney); Gayboy (Ronaldo – the reason why Sandman secretly likes Man Utd) and other stars on the Man Utd team. Liverpool have Gerrard Luis Garcia and the Dutchman with the name who nobody knows how to pronounce Dirk Kuyt (is it Cute or Kite or kait or koit???)
so stock your beer (ill come back to this later) and your potato chips and plonk yourself in front of the TV at 5:25 PM on SUnday evening and switch to ESPN to view this game.
Across the continent we head to Spain where the greatest rivalry (arguably) match will be taking place between Real Madrid and Barcelona;
The fans of these two teams HATE each other to the core – no respectful hate kind of stuff – they’d kill each other if they’d been allowed to.
The rivalry stems from the fact that Real Madrid and Barcelona represent two rival regions of Spain ; There is a huge political history behind their rivalry which i wont bore you here with.
The most famous player to make the move across the teams was Luis Figo – He moved from Barcelona to Real Madrid. he received death threats; a pig’s head was thrown at him on the football ground and bottles filled with urine and a box of boyband CDs (was kidding about that)
again both team are saturated with multimillion dollar earning superstars – ROnaldinho, Messi the Wonder kid and others will be donning the colors of Barcelona while Ruud Van NIstelrooy Raul Victoria Beckham and others on the other side.
This is a late night fixture prolly around 11 PM on Sunday night. its actually in the wee hours of 23rd October at 1230 AM (so thats why i said you need to stock up on the Beer.. )
Trivia: Barca have never had a shirt sponsor and this time they have a ‘sponsor’ but of a different kind – they are endorsing UNICEF; i admire this team a lot.
and for Arsenal fans who will be watching football on Sunday we have a game sandwitched between these two games ; we head to play Reading who drew with Man UTd and narrowly lost to Chelsea last week…
Enjoy

And then I switched to CNN and the results were shown on a news stickler. saalla.

Nice post, even for non-football fans like me. Ronaldo gay?? that’s news to me. Will not be watching the match/es. I fall asleep even during World cup matches, unless the snacks are really good. In which case I eat the snacks, then promptly fall asleep. The only time I was fully awake was when Zidane butted wassisname. Then I was boiling mad and wishing a Zidane knew kungfu and chopped wassisname to bits.
Anyways, informative post. I feel very enlightened. thanks Goldmember.
