Have you ever thought of what you would do if you lost your phone ? If you still hadn’t and don’t know how to , here’s how to…
Like a unique registration number for your vehicle your cellphone are equipped with with an International Mobile Equipment Identity(IMEI) . IMEI is 16 digit serial number which is on the underside of your phone battery . You can see this by typing *#06# on your phone .This is the number which will help you track your phone when you lost it . Follow either any of these steps :
1.If your phone is stolen call your service provider and give them your IMEI serial number . But this a very time consuming process since the numbers of thousands of subscribers have to be tracked down.
2.Another way is to make use of the service provided by Microtechnologies India . Through its LMTS ( Lost Mobile tracking System ) you will get an alert when someone changes the SIM card on your phone .It will then give you the location of your phone from its nearest cell site .
LMTS is a paid service of just Rs.400/- or $9 annually . It is a very simple process based on SMS technology . It is very effective and you get an alert no matter where you are ( As long as you are under the God’s green earth You can then track your lost mobile through their website .
This a very simple process .
1.First log on to https://www.microlmts.net/
2.The compatibility of your phone will be checked . ( At present compatible only with GSM ; CDMA is expected in the near future )
3.After registration , click on the ‘Download MicroLMTS link’ and follow the instructions . You can pay it by debit/credit card .
4.The bookmark URL to the download page will be SMSed to you . Using this download the application to your PC or to your phone using GPRS . It is only 20kB in size .
5.During installation you will be prompted for details of SIM card no. , PIN no. , user name and cell phone number . The number and the e-mail address you gave are very3 important as you will receive the alert on these when your SIM is changed . So do specify the number or e-mails of your closed ones .
6.After receiving the alert , you can then act accordingly .Either talk to the person asking him to return the phone or go to the nearest Police Station and file a complaint . You can also ask your service provider to block the SIM .
