Little Fighter

One page led to the other and I ended up on the story about the origin of the song Little Fighter by the band White Lion. You might have heard it before. But then, it wouldn’t hurt too much to hear it again.

It’s about the first ship operated by Greenpeace under the name Rainbow Warrior which was sunk by French foreign intelligence agency in 1985 while gearing up to protest against French nuclear tests on the French Polynesia, killing a cameraman.

Without a weapon in your hand
You came to fight a war
They took your life, but didn’t know
That you would never die

Rise again little fighter
And let the world know the reason why
Shine again little fighter
And don’t let ’em end the things you do

From wikipedia:
“Rainbow Warrior was refloated on 21 August 1985 and moved to a naval harbour for forensic examination. Although the hull had been recovered the damage was too extensive for economic repair and the vessel was scuttled in Matauri Bay in the Cavalli Islands, New Zealand on 2 December 1987, to serve as a dive wreck and fish sanctuary. The move was seen as a fitting end for the vessel. Indeed, the hull is now covered with a large colony of vari-coloured sea anemones.”

Of course the Rainbow Warrior didn’t die. Another ‘little fighter’ had taken it’s place bearing the same name and continues to wage a war for mother earth.
