The bandh was imposed from 5 am today and all government offices and schools were shut closed. Vehicles in the town were not allowed to leave and vehicles from outside were not allowed to enter the town. The bandh had major support among the locals of the town, sources further confirmed.
Sources have reported that all NGOs in Ngopa town had an urgent meeting over the transferring of Dr. F. Lalrimawii, w/o Ruatkima, SDO, P&E, from the Community Health Centre to Champhai Civil Hospital and passed a resolution that the state’s dire act was a disrespect to the locals of Ngopa town.
Dr. F. Lalrimawii was contacted by Champhai Chief Medical Officer on August 6 where she was asked if she is going to join her new post or not in Champhai. Then on Wednesday, she was given a notice to join her post before August 10. After coming to hear of the notice, the locals of Ngopa decided to impose a total bandh and stop Dr. F. Lalrimawii from leaving the town’s perimeter.
Ngopa, a town with 1000 houses, has 30 beds in their Community Health Centre and has five staff nurses and one sister. The Health Centre currently has two medical doctors but still has no specialist doctor although proposal for the posting of a specialist doctor had been made. The hospital quarters also has lodgings for doctors only and the staff nurses have no room in the quarters.
“Our Community Health Centre is entitled to have more than just two or three doctors but the state is just neglecting us. We are very shocked and infuriated with the state’s act of transferring one of our doctors while we are in the state of urging the government to post new doctors in our town. Four community leaders from our town are being sent to have talks with the state over our Health Centre and if we are not satisfied with the talks, we will not lift the bandh,†one community leader of the town was quoted as saying by the Evening Post daily newspaper.
He also went on to say that the whole community believes that the transferring of Dr. Lalrimawii was due to the Demand Day observed by Champhai Jt. YMA on August 1. Sources have reported that V. Lalhruailiana, Secretary, VC Ngopa, C. Lalramlawma, Secretary, Ngopa YMA, Khualtawna, Vice President, Ngopa VC and Kumthara, MNF Party Worker are the three community leaders sent to Aizawl today to have meeting with the state’s Health Minister.
The four community leaders will give a report to the Health Minister over the town’s annoyance with transferring of staff nurses to other posts from time to time while neglecting to fill up the vacant nurse posts in their town.
They will also mention the town’s annoyance with officers of the Forest, Soil and Agriculture Department’s neglecting of their work. The ROs and AEOs of the departments are reported to be in their office only during payment of salary.
