Aizawl Aug 12: a 13-year old school boy who had gone missing since Thursday was found dead hanging himself in a storeroom-cum-godown at Chhingaveng Thar locality this morning.
Vanlalpeka, son of Edenthara of Chhingaveng Thar had not come home from the Electric Middle School where he is studying in class VI on Thursday. His parents were not unduly alarmed because their son was not a very obedient one and this was not the first time that he had not come home. He was also known to take drugs.
Not bothering to inform the police, the parents and other relatives kept a quiet watch out for the boy not suspecting that his absence would end up in such tragic circumstances.
Police sources said one Vanlalfala was the first person to spot the body inside the storeroom-cum-godown on the lowermost portion of R. Vanlaltluanga’s building which the owners never bother to lock because nothing valuable was ever kept there.
Police said the body had decomposed to the extent that the odour of decaying flesh could be detected by passersby near the building. No one, however, dreamt that it was a body decomposing because a latrine is situated near the building and everyone thought the smell was coming from the latrine.
Police have not suspected foul play because they found a vial of correcting fluid in the boy’s school bag which is the favourite sniffing substance of boys of his age and nothing to suggest homicide. They guessed that the boy had taken his own life by hanging himself by the neck with a measuring tape while under the influence of the substance.
Talking about the case, a senior police said suicides committed by such young people are very rare and that he was not sure whether they have any cases of suicides in the state by persons not older than 13.
