Aizawl, Aug 28: A rapist who had been convicted to serve four years in prison by ADM (J) Lucy Lalrinthari on April 25, 2006 has been prevented from going to jail by a state minister, according to local vernacular papers today.
According to sources, R. Lalhmangaihzuala, aged 49, a resident of Lunglei Venglai, was convicted of raping a 19 year old girl on November 3, 2001 and sent to prison last year. But after only a few months in Lunglei prison, he took leave from the prison on medical grounds on September 29, 2006 and has not returned to prison since then.
After coming to hear of the injustice served by the state, KL Liana, ADM (J), issued an order to the IG Prison to cancel any extension of leave for the rapist. Lalhmangaihzuala was scheduled to report back to prison from August 26, 2007 but the Aizawl Medical Board however, gave 60 more days of leave to the rapist saying that he is still not yet fit to serve his remaining term in prison. The order for extension of leave was signed by Dr. Rosangluaia and the IGP had no other option but to extend his leave.
Infuriated by the action taken by the Aizawl Medical Board, press members in Lunglei launched an investigation and found that one state minister was involved in preventing Lalhmangaihzuala from going back to prison. Further investigations revealed that the minister issued an order to the IGP to refer the rapist to have medical check-ups in Aizawl to allow the Aizawl Medical Board to issue leave letters.
Sources have also informed that the minister has given contract work to the rapist and he is currently undertaking the contract works. (Lunglei Tribune the daily newspaper from Lunglei reported the said minister as Dr. R. Lalthangliana)

I have heard too many unsavoury stories about this particular minister, a character called R.Lalthangliana. Why in heavens he thinks he has right to interfere in the due process of the law ? He is not the only guity party here. Dr.Rosangluaia does not deserve to be in the profession, and junior magistrate Lucy lalrinthari was too lenient in sentencing the convicted rapist. The only civilised person is K.L.Liana, ADM(J). he deserves praise from all Mizo people.
