Monday, August 27th, 2007

AIZOL TIMES –

Aizawl Aug 27: If what a report in a local vernacular daily today is true, cellular telephones are the culprit in the increase of ‘call-girls’ in the state capital.

Tawrh Bawm today said amateur prostitutes are increasingly abounding in Aizawl who are looking to make quick money from selling their bodies to acquire mobile phones or to top up or recharge their connections. And taxi drivers are the best conduit for contact between these amateur call girls and male customers.

Boomarang at Independence Rock, Delhi

Monday, August 27th, 2007

I missed the concert because I hadn’t read a word of newsprint in the last week. Anyway, this morning’s Delhi Times(ToI) mentioned Boomarang as being one of the select few to perform at the Independence Rock concert at Pragati Maidan here in Delhi.

Rock groups enthrall Delhiites
Four rock groups – Superfuzz, Oritus, Half Step Down and Boomarang – are the chosen ones that will make music at the city finale tonight at Hamsadhwani Theatre. “At the city prelims, we had a huge audience and a very positive response. We are expecting an even better response tonight,” says Dhawal Mudgal, lead vocalist of HSD.

Mizo Idol nears zenith; 12 contestants in top 10

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

AIZOL TIMES –

Aizawl Aug 26: Cable TV provider Zonet Vision’s Mizo Idol Contest is nearing its conclusion after several weeks of selections with the final group of 12 contestants selected last night.

On Thursday and Friday nights, the top 20 finalists vied for the top ten positions which were announced last night by the cable provider in a live show where surprisingly 12 made it to the top ten list because three of the contestants had received the same points from the three judges of the contest.

Appreciated by music lovers of nearly all age brackets by the music loving Mizo community, the show had drawn some flaks because of the blunt remarks made by the judges in regard to the performances of the contestants some of whom were praised and others criticized without mincing words. What came as a surprise was that the contestants did not seem to mind being told the truth though some viewers were of the opinion that the Mizo society is not yet ready such frank remarks.
