“IT leh Computer subject hi High School level a compulsory subject ah dah ni rawh se”: Learning should be fun. Don’t throw it at someone.
There are two types of people
1) Those who wants to become expert with Computer/IT
2) Those who wants to know how to use computer because they have to use it now or later.
You cannot throw it to the second category. Moreover, computer education should be more of concept/understanding based rather than tool/application based.
For example:
Teach kids about creating documents, the formats (doc, rtf, pdf, txt etc..), the alignment, fonts in general. The various tools available to achieve this.
For practicals, may be MS Word since it’s most common. However, I recommend OpenOffice since it free (as in freedom and free beer) and also supports common formats including doc.
For common man, the features you really need to know in most applications are really few.
Another approach is to involve the use of computer in other subjects.
I really like the OLPC approach

Children—especially young children—do not need to learn about IT and certainly do not need to be fluent users of WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT—They are not office workers. However, picking up these skills, having grown up with a laptop, will be readily accomplished.”
