Govt. employees refuse to throw in the towel

AIZOL TIMES –

Aizawl, Sept 26: Government employees falling under the groups A, B, C and D and the Central Pay Demand Coordination Committee had a meeting yesterday where they passed a resolution saying they are annoyed with the state government’s decision over their pay scales.

The joint meeting today passed a resolution saying they are infuriated that the state still has not made decisions over the implementation of central pay in the state and an ACP order still has not been issued till today. “We refuse to bow down to the state government’s plan to change the ACP system of next higher grade to next higher scale and demand that the state use the next higher grade ACP system,” a statement from the joint meeting declared.

The Coordination Committee also stated their annoyance with the state’s decision to fix equal pay scales for E.Es and Directors and Joint Secretaries and Joint Directors and Deputy Secretaries as Directors and Joint Secretaries should enjoy more pay than their lower ranked counterparts.

The Committee also expressed its annoyance that a non-functional post has been created for engineers while other government services are left out, demanding the state not to give special consideration to engineers and to create non-functional posts in every service line.

The Coordination Committee further stated that further agitations against the state will be organized if their demands to the state are not met by the state at the earliest time possible.

Meanwhile, the Group B Coordination Committee, who met the Chief Secretary over their grievances with the state yesterday, has decided not to call off their mass casual leave until their demands for equal pay with assistants and stenographers-II are met by the state.

Speaking to this paper, V. Zaithanzuala, Vice Chairman of the committee said, “Although we apologize to the public for the problems we may cause for taking mass casual leave, we feel that the Expert Committee which is supposed to look into our pay scales is only another delay tactic applied by the state. Our Committee feels that the Expert Committee will do no favor for us as it is this Committee that had made mistakes over our scale of pay in the first place. We will not back down one step from the decision we have taken until the state take real action to meet our demands.”

He, however, admitted that the Group B Committee had no part whatsoever in the joint meeting of the Groups A, B, C and D and the Central Pay Demand Coordination Committee or the resolutions passed during the meeting as they were not informed of the meeting.
