Aizawl, Oct 2: A village clergy on a visit to the state capital was harassed and injured by a bus conductor on September 26 and is currently being treated at the Aizawl Civil Hospital with serious injuries, according to sources.
Ngurkunga, 69, a clergy in Lamzawl village, was on his way to Aizawl from Ngopa in a NE Khawdungsei to Aizawl bus licensed under MZ 01/C 3499. The bus reached Aizawl late in the evening and Ngurkunga told the conductor and owner of the bus Rotuakliana s/o Sumtuakkhuma, NE Khawdungsei that he wanted to get off at Sikulpuikawn.
Rotuakliana answered back that he would have to get off at Treasury Square. While trying to get off at the Square, Ngurkunga could not step down from the bus quickly as he had suffered motion sickness from the trip. Rotuakliana then lost his patience and forced him off the bus, shouting at him and knocking him unconscious.
The unconscious body of Ngurkunga was laid near the Treasury Square Post Office and the bus then sped away. Passers by who saw Ngurkunga at first thought he was dead and contacted his relatives in Aizawl through a phone number they found in one of his pockets.
His relatives then quickly took Ngurkunga to the Aizawl Civil Hospital where he was admitted. Ngurkunga is still recovering from the injuries he suffered at the hands of the bus conductor. Sources have reported that the left side of his body is paralyzed.
Sources have further reported that Ngrukunga, a resident of Lamzawl in Ngopa town, is the present chairman of Ngopa Pastor Bial Presbyterian Church and has a gentle soul that would never hurt a fly.
Immediately after hearing the news, Lamzawl Welfare Committee and Lamzawl Branch YMA released a statement demanding that the government hand out the highest punishment possible to Rotuakliana, who harassed and injured an innocent citizen of the state.
