Children’s Day remain unsung in Mizoram

AIZOL TIMES –

Aizawl Nov 14: Children’s Day celebrated all over the country remained quite an ordinary day in Mizoram because the state government had not made any programme to observe the day.

Reporting about the functionless Children’s Day today, Evening Post quoted the School Education director Malsawmthangi as saying that although the Aizawl Doordarshan Kendra had brought out a special programme for today, the state government had not made any provision to celebrate Children’s Day.

“In the future, I believe the state government will be making provisions to observe the day because it is an important day for children. However, it is not only the government that is important, but parents as well. The day should be observed in such a way that it can be a rededication day for parents to their children as well as well-to-do families to do something about those children who have less fortunate parents,” the School Education director was quoted by this vernacular paper.

The paper also quoted Social Welfare deputy director Aileen Vanlalzawni as saying that the people as a whole have not given the importance due to children and that it was a great shame that no function had been arranged on such an important day for children.

According to this paper, no government school today held any function on behalf of the children while many privately-run schools observed the day with solemnity.

In a shining example, the Home Mission School in Zarkawt today observed Children’s Day by inviting the Positive Network of Mizoram to give lectures to the students about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and how to work towards curbing the spread of this dreaded disease.
