It was a proud moment for the Mizoram Information & Public Relations Department when its Director L. R. Sailo was inducted into the Public Relations Council of India’s prestigious ‘Hall of Fame in PR’ on the night of 26th March at a grand event to celebrate the occasion at the Hotel Grand Ashok, Bangalore. Each year the PRCI selects and inducts not more than seven of the best PR professionals from around the country who have made landmarks in the field. This year, along with Mizoram I&PR Director L R Sailo, six other eminent PR personnels were also conferred with the ‘Hall of Fame’

He may have been honoured at Hotel Grand Ashok but I am not that impressed. But let us see who are the other six honoured there on 26th March as winners of “Hall of Fame on PR”:
1. Yogesh Joshi, President, Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI), Mumbai (tried to visit their website but it was blank on my computer )
2. Jitender Bhargava, Director (Communications), AIR INDIA
( we all know the “prestige” enjoy by Air India)
3. Dr G C Banik, National Professor (PR & Communications), UGC, (UGC gives away funds to Universities, do they need image building really ?)
4) N D Rajpal, Resident Director (PR), Alembic Ltd, New Delhi
(checked. It is a pharmaceutical company with gross sale of Rs. 720 crore ($180 million) Compared to them ranbaxy sales were $ 1.178 million
5. Rita Bimani, President, Ritam Communications (She at least is well known and famous.)
6) R T Kumar, Director, RTIC Advertising, Bangalore. (They had to include a local, don’t they?).
My problem is with “Public Relations Council of India” I could not find their website, and very few information about them are available in the internet.
Now about Mr. L.R.Sailo. I always believe that PR is about impressing your rivals, partners and observers. The state government needs image makers as it is not exactly enjoying good prestige. Why did many people believe that MNF people are involved in minor explosion near MNF office (Hnam Run) ? That is because the ruling party and government run by it have very little credibility. Is it not the responsibility of Department run by Mr. Sailo to make people believe what the ministers say ?
If you believe he did his job well, he deserves the honour. But I beg to differ. In this state, we have so little expectation from the government.
(Sorry about long lost. I normally made them short)
