iPhone in India with Vodafone

April 25th, 2008 11:44 am by trekkerboy

NEW DELHI: Come September and Indians will be able to lay their hands on one of the most-sought after gadgets — iPhone. According to a leading financial daily, the phone from Apple is expected to be launched with telecom operator Vodafone in the first week of September

Why Vodafone? Why not partner with Airtel? I have seen two persons with iPhone at work. Must be unlock version! More reports on Google news. It may cost Rs 28,000 (704 USD) for 8 GB version.

unlocking is super easy now with ziphone, its one push process. Personally I unlocked (before ziphone) 5 to 6 phones and after 2. I love iPhone but in India I dont know since its mostly for internet updates+softwares+browsings etc are all based on wifi and India has few of this public areas and even those are pretty slow. Take away all those web thingy and then all u get is just another hi-fi phone…iPhone standard doesn’t have zoom on its cam or neither does it have a video recorder..so yea better be smart when it comes to these sort of expensive gadget. If you can afford it then I have no say……

*** PS: I saw it cost like $700 US ~ damn the expensive.. for 8GB..Nah-uh!!! Call up some frens from US and asked them to bring it for u for US$ 400 or even send it from there, pay the custom and u still save over $200-$300. It will be locked but all u need to do is go to https://www.ziphone.org and download the software and just plug in ur iPhone and press “Do It All”. The best thing about this is, u dont need any internet connection. Vodafone is ripping people off bigtime since $700 iphones are mostly 16GB here…Anyways, I wont still buy it even if I can afford it in this case!!!!

    – Nia hman duhdan hi a in ang lova. an interesting thread:

Where In the US Can You Get Just a Cell Phone?

I am looking around for a cell phone for my technically challenged mother and all she wants is just a phone, and yet there seem to be no carriers in the US that carry a plain cell phone with good reception and battery life. All of them bundle cameras, PDAs, MP3 players, and a kitchen sink with a battery life of 2 hours, all for the low price of $350 or more… Having looked around, the Motorola F3 is exactly what she wants but it doesn’t seem to be available in the US. If we order it online will it work on US carriers? Are there any comparable products out there with a similar feature set and price range available for US networks?”

Chhanga who is a long citizen of Chennai Mizo has a cellphone a little bigger than thumb drive. it costs about 5K INR. It is just a phone + mp3 player. very handy.

I have Sony Ericsson K550i. I use it for

    1) phone
    2) alarm
    3) alert
    4) camera, it’s the only camera I have
    5) RSS news reader when travelling

I also backup my address book. I got it for 11,500 last April. Now it costs about 7000 INR only.
