Society for Recovering Addicts, better known as SORA Family was formed between 2004 and 2005 by the inmates of Samaritan Rehab Center (Durtlang). As the name suggests, the society is basically a community of recovering addicts who seek to help and support each other in the form of meetings, projects, and other activities. SORA Family began to gain notice from the public after they released their first music video, ‘family theme’, which eventually became a big hit with the gospel demand channels in the state.
Then came “wha cha gonna do”, another music video, and with increasing popularity, SORA Family started to give numerous performances at venues such as Vanapa Hall, Millenium rooftop, etc. Remarkably, all of the funds SORA received from these gigs went to the First Step Children’s Home, which is presently maintained and managed by one of their members, David Zothanpuia. In addition, members also still contribute what they can every month to this Children’s Home. Such a combination of music and charity is what motivated the band. The Band:
