Apparently, Planet X (a.k.a. Nibiru) was spotted by astronomers in the early 1980′s in the outermost reaches of the Solar System. It has been tracked by infrared observatories; seen lurking around in the Kuiper Belt and now it is speeding right toward us and will enter the inner Solar System in 2012. So what does this mean to us?

Is there a planet Nibiru that will pretty much destroy earth in 2012? I watched a video about it last night and I freaked out so bad i was shaking and crying. Is our world coming to an end in 2012? If so… why cant we just blow the thing up and call it a day?
I am really sorry that these crazy Nibiru claims have upset you. I don’t want to keep answering these questions about Nibiru, but let me say once more as clearly as I can, for you and the other questioners: Nibiru does not exist. NASA has never discovered or detected Nibiru or anything remotely like it. The handful of dwarf planets that astronomers have discovered beyond Neptune are on stable orbits that will never come into the inner solar system, let alone threaten Earth. Nothing will happen in 2012. Nibiru is simply a fake, a hoax, the result of a small religious cult that is unfortunately scaring lots of people with totally false stories. David Morrison

You said that IRAS didn’t found anything similar as Nibiru, right? But it was about 20 years ago! What if, as the sumerian cult claimed, Nibiru’s moving closer to Earth, what if it was too far for IRAS to see it, 20 years ago!!?
I have said that none of the space infrared surveys have found any large unknown solar system objects. The infrared sources they have discovered are far beyond the solar system. If Nibiru were real (either a large planet, or a brown dwarf, or a planet circling a brown dwarf) it would have been detected by any of these space infrared surveys, even 20 years ago. IRAS comes up specifically because many websites and blogs claim that IRAS found Nibiru and NASA has hushed up the information. These claims are lies, as I and other scientists, including the IRAS mission scientists, have repeatedly explained. It is so obvious by now that Nibiru does not exist, that I cannot understand how these lies can continue to be circulated. If it were real, it would have been detected by any of several space infrared surveys, and for at least the past couple of years it would have been easily seen by astronomers with even small telescopes. If it were real, it would be visible now to the naked eye. But it isn’t!
