People living outside our hills know how vital they are to our daily life. They are our route way to our colleges for most. We used them to the fullest and bargained them to the last penny and some of us would not mind going into rows for mere penny. But do we really know their life, how they earn and that they are slaves of their own profession.
Rickshaw Pullers and owners are completely different people living a contrasting life. A Rickshaw puller cannot become its owner. Amazed !! (This is in context to Delhi and most metros. but may not exist in some areas). Rickshaw pullers rent their cycles for anything around Rs. 25-40 a day. They have to pay this daily no matter the circumstances. We may feel that this is fair. What is not fair is that they cannot have their own cycles.
The owner (or we may call the master) are middle class people having cycles upto hundreds (where the law accept at most 2 per person and a maximum of 5 for widows). They work in close relation with the Police. The police do not allow any other rickshaws apart from the rentals/owners to ply in that area. If found any they will break the cycle and beat up the puller (or we may call them slaves).
“No person shall keep or ply or hire a cycle-rickshaw in Delhi unless he himself is the owner thereof and holds a license granted in that behalf by the Commissioner on payment of the fee that may from time to time, be fixed under sub section (2) of Section 430.”
According to the latest MCD report there are a minimum if 10 lakh rickshaw in delhi and at least 50 to 60 lakh people’s livelihood is dependant on the labour of Delhi’s rickshaw pullers. THIS implies that we have around 10 lakh slaves in the capital.
Does the prestigious Human Rights sees any job opening here? Isn’t it more important than marching against the so called Gay Rights or the Lesbians?

human rights???
Rickshaw puller is actually making a living by providing a form of non-polluting transportation. By making use of their services you allow them to actually make a living and feed their families.
Police harassment, rickshaw cartels and monopolisation is a different topic and doesn’t come under Human Rights.
Now what makes anybody decide wether the rights of Rickshaw Pullers are more important than the rights of Gays and Lesbians? Are your rights more important than those of the Rickshaw Puller or less important? This is the wrong kind of debate.
All human rights are important and we shouldn’t be saying one is more important than others.

Human Rights a ni a…. Let me tell you this…. Everyone has the right to work and earn a living one way or another. There has to be a Rickshaw puller in this world we’re living, if that is the level of education the person has and is living in the environment of the said subject. Let he who so ever said their job is violating human rights give them a job which would not violate human rights; and not just to an individual but to all the rickshaw pullers, then cry out loud about human right abuses.

Guys, Guys .. i am in no way saying that pulling of rickshaws is against the human rights. What i am saying is that thier unability to drive thier own is. Imagine yourself not able to improve the way you live. Rickshaw pullers will have the same level of income for his life, or may even decrease as he gets older. They are stucked where thier are.
Spend sometime talking to them and you’ll find out how they live.
