To the students in Timothy Wolfe’s environmental crimes class at Mount St. Mary’s University, the Bhopal and Exxon Valdez disasters are part of the history books.
“It’s problematic that it’s not in our collective memories,” Wolfe said to the class.
Wolfe is professor of criminology and sociology and chairman of the school’s sociology department. Only one student had heard of the 1984 Bhopal disaster. “I don’t fault you at all,” he said. “You absorb what is there.”
