The ZORF DISTINGUISHED LECTURE SERIES has been designed to prepare a forum for an occasional interaction among the intellectuals of diverse backgrounds. It is thus attempted in this endeavour to invite eminent scholars, scientists and specialists in certain fields to give lectures on their respective professional expertise or special subjects which have relevance to the present social order and existence.
The Foundation has taken initiative to launch this series from this year (2010) with the objective of imparting essential knowledge and understanding to the public at large and providing to a wide class of scholars— a forum for communicating the results of their original works, presenting research findings and such other authentic works of arts.
All these Lecture Series will be documented for the purpose of media broadcasting and telecast by Local TV Channels. It is also intended to transcribe the lecture texts for publication in a book form whereas the records will be retained in soft copies for sale.
In the wake of globalisation wave, along with our coming in closer touch with modern development, Mizo society has experienced a gradual shrinkage of its flora and fauna, ancient skills and knowledge, and most of all— a visionary wisdom. At risk is our vast archive of knowledge and expertise, a catalogue of the imaginations, oral and written expressions composed by the array of countless chiefs and their knowledgeable elders, warriors, farmers, midwives, poets, and visionaries. The artistic and intellectual expressions in their full traditional ingenuity and diversity are in jeopardy. Rediscovering a new appreciation of various issues for the progress and development of our land and our society along with amplification of our great Mizo spirit as expressed by our culture, our tradition and our knowledge will be among the central themes of our Series.
